Are you standing on the shoulders of giants?

It was Isaac Newton who famously declared that he was "standing on the shoulders of giants", referring to the fact that all his knowledge was a development of ideas that other, greater, people had developed before him. In that sense, it has a role to play in your positioning as an expert--however I think of it in a very different sense when it comes to running and growing your coaching, consulting or training business.

One of the biggest lessons I learned in building my six-figure business is that you can't do something like that all alone.

The biggest shifts in my level of success came when I stopped trying to do everything myself.

First, there's just so much to do in keeping a real business running. You can't possibly do everything that needs to be done, be an expert at it, and at the same time be serving your clients properly.Trying to do everything is one of the main things that keeps most coaches and consultants stuck as a small, struggling business.

Second, there is a lot of work to be done in building relationships with your market, and a lot of trust to be developed. Working with other people can be a great accelerator there. I'm often asked how I get clients in my corporate practice. The answer is simple. I get them through word of mouth, through introductions, and above all through long-term partnerships. Most coaches know they need to set up "joint ventures" but approach it from the wrong frame of mind ("how can this person help me build my business"). You need to think, instead, in terms of what I call strategic partnerships.

You need to build a strong team round you that you trust: assistants, suppliers, strategic partners, anyone else you need. As soon as you do, you'll feel a lot of the overwhelm that usually holds coaches and consultants back will fall away.

So here's my question to you: what are you still trying to do yourself that you could let go of, to create room in your business for you to shine as the Natural Expert you already are in your field?
