… if you only had 6 months left in your job? That is the question facing one of my clients right now. But as I was working with him the other day it struck me that it is something that everyone should be asking themselves, even if they’ve only just started a new job or business.
It’s the kind of question that focuses your attention on the key issues: what matters most in this role? How do I make the greatest difference and provide the greatest value? How do I want to be remembered? What am I looking for in my next role?
By focusing on these questions daily, we achieve two things. First, we are always performing at the top of our game, aiming to make an impact and leave a positive impression. Second, it keeps us moving in the direction of our next career goal.
And, if you DO happen to be in the last six months of a role, it keeps you out of that ‘counting down the days’ lull that so often drags performance down. You want the end of your tenure to be memorable for the right reasons!
